CELEB FC came down to play a game in aid of El Elliott, the game was played in a very competitive manner, especially in the first half, with the eventual winners DAVENTRY HEART THROB XI coming out 7-2 on top. The Celeb FC team had a heavy night the night before and got better as the game went on, so it ended up being a very end to end game, with the Celebs missing a penalty (great save by Simon Prior) and hitting the bar and post. The local team though had started with an early goal from Martin Crowder, then Darren Taylor scored another 2 before half time. Second half they went 4-0 ahead from Ryan Compston, and then the Celebs pulled one back, Daventry scored again through a long range Ryan Waldock effort, before Derry Mensah scored for the celebs from a header. Neil Jenkins then netted before Darren Taylor wrapped up his hat trick. A great effort from both teams.
Approximately 200 turned up on a lovely day, they also enjoyed the raffle, the Bouncy Castle and the Toy Tombola.
In the VIP are after there was food and Mr Rootsy gave us his version of two songs which were awesome.
A good atmosphere and a good day, totals to be announced soon.
A big thanks to all that helped, and thank to Karin Flower for arranging the game through Nathan Cockerton.

The reason we are here for the game. ELI ELLIOTT

My name is El and I was diagnosed in 2008 with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). MS is the most common neurological condition diagnosed in young people in the UK. It is a degenerative condition that affects the central nervous system. The central nervous system is comprised of the spinal column and the brain.
In MS your own immune system attacks the CNS, causing inflammation and scaring of the CNS. This then prevents the passage of messages, and gives rise to a multitude of symptoms. It can affect balance, walking, speech, eyesight, fine motor skills, and introduces numbness and pain, amongst many other things. There is no cure.
I have been diagnosed with an aggressive form of MS, and this sees me always with either two crutches or a wheelchair. This is why I need a downstairs bedroom and bathroom. The access to my front door is via five steps, so the front access needs changing too, to be wheelchair accessible.
When I was diagnosed with MS, I was training to be a midwife, with all the shift work, exams and study that entails, I was a regular at the gym, had a big friend group and was a single mother to 4 girls. I was determined to hold on to all that, but that battle was sadly won by MS. My life, as it is now, has speedily become unrecognisable from the life I had.
We have approached the local council for a disabled facilities grant (DFG), towards the cost of the adaptions and they have refused us any assistance. Our case is now under investigation with the ombudsman, and will be for several months yet. Even if the council’s decision gets over turned, we will still need to supplement the DFG, hence the fundraising .
You cannot imagine what this means to us. All of you giving up your time, and I just wanted to say thank you. Thank you so much.
Enjoy the game!
